The Kinetic Knights (FRC Team 781) made it as far as the semi-finals at the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Georgian Bay District robotics competition, held in Barrie on the weekend.
After 12 matches over two days, the team finished with a record of eight wins and four losses, ending up in eighth place out of 34 teams.
As Alliance 6 captain, the Kinetic Knights selected Team 4343 - MaxTech of Aurora, and Team 4920 - the Belle River Automatons, to join them for the elimination rounds.
After winning the quarter-final round in two straight matches, the Alliance advanced to the semi-finals where it faced tough competition, losing two straight and ending its quest for the finals.
During the awards ceremonies, Team 781 received the Gracious Professionalism award for the second competition in a row.
The Kinetic Knights now await the results of the remaining two weeks of competition to determine whether they qualify for the Ontario District competition, to be held April 12-15 at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga. From there, they hope to qualify for the world championships in St. Louis, Missouri, April 26-30.
