"Spooky Bruce" event at Walkerton Jail has been cancelled

The Bruce 150 ‘Spooky Bruce’ event, scheduled at the Walkerton Jail, Oct. 27-29, has been cancelled.

A press release from Bruce County council, dated Sept. 9, states that the decision to cancel the event was a difficult one, given the growing interest and popularity of this Halloween adventure.

"The logistics of moving patrons through the jail in a safe manner was of utmost concern," states the release. "The Walkerton Jail is a building designed to keep people in. Considering that, the layout of the building and its small entryways created safety concerns and accessibility issues.

"The Bruce 150 committee held several meetings to discuss risk mitigation. Cost assessments and liability concerns resulted in the committee’s responsible choice to forgo the event and focus efforts on other upcoming projects."

Over the past year, the committee has organized a number of amazing community celebrations including:
  • The Bruce 150 New Year’s Gala
  • Bruce 150 Curling Bonspiel
  • Bruce Remembers: Military Reunion Luncheon
  • Bruce County Doors Open
  • Provided sponsorship for the CF Snowbirds Airshow

The county encourages communities and visitors to continue the 150th celebrations by:
  • Visiting the Bruce County Outreach Trailer (locations listed on
  • Attending the Bruce 150 Art Reveal, Sept. 27, at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre
  • Attending the year-end Bruce 150 Time Capsule Dedication in December
