The Ripley Wolves have started their Senior "A" hockey season with a win.
A late powerplay goal by Cody Britton gave the Wolves a 2-1 victory over the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks, Saturday night (Oct. 7) in a satellite game at the Davidson Centre, during Hockey Day in Kincardine.
Pat Weijak got his sophomore season off to a good start with the Wolves’ first goal of the season midway through the first, assisted by newcomer Nick Seiler and veteran Tyler McCarthy.
It was a back-and-forth affair from there before Britton scored the game-winner with just 22 seconds left on the clock, from Brett Catto and Seiler.
Jason Hamilton is the Wolves’ new goalie. He suited up for the now-defunct Mapleton-Minto 81s last season and was signed by Ripley just before the season started. He certainly lived up to his reputation as one of the league’s top netminders with 43 saves in the Wolves win.
The Wolves have this weekend off and then head to Clinton, Friday, Oct. 20, at 8:30 p.m., before holding their season home-opener, Saturday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. against Huron East.
Tomorrow (Friday, Oct. 13) is the first of the Wolves’ monthly Quiz Nights where teams of up to eight people will answer trivia questions as they vie for half of the proceeds. The event, which will be held the second Friday of each month at the Ripley Curling Club, is an age-of-majority evening. Cost is $20 per player; bring your own refreshments. Registration begins at 7:30 p.m., and the trivia night starts at 8 p.m. Drop-ins are welcome if you don’t have enough for your own team!
