Hatch donates $3,000 to Bruce County Public Library

The Ontario-headquartered global engineering firm, Hatch, has donated $3,000 to the Bruce County Public Library to be used towards STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programming in schools.
“One of Hatch’s core values is to contribute to the communities in which we work and live," says Jim Sarvinis, managing director - power. “We are proud to be part of the Bruce County community and we feel this is one way we can respond to the warm welcome provided to us in the last two years.”
Encouraging STEM in young children and helping them grow into future engineers is something Hatch is passionate about, says Sarvinis. “Hatch is excited to work with the Bruce County Public Library to bring STEM programming to local schools. Science and technology are the way of the future, and having children learn STEM in fun and interactive ways will hopefully encourage Bruce County children to choose a career in STEM. We hope they will come and work for Hatch in our Port Elgin office and help us solve our clients’ toughest challenges.”
Hatch opened an office in Port Elgin in July of 2016 in support of Bruce Power's Life Extension Program and other work. In the past year, the office has grown steadily and Hatch is planning to continue expanding by hiring locally and moving more of its people up to the Bruce County area.
The company has donated to many charities, including $5,000 to Community Foundation Grey Bruce, Pumpkinfest, Saugeen Shores bandshell concerts, and more than $40,000 to Bruce Power supported charities.
“The Bruce County Public Library is thrilled to work with Hatch to help bring STEM learning to young people throughout the county," says Nancy Kuhl, program co-ordinator. "We currently offer many STEM programs both at the library and through outreach in the schools and at community events. From playing with tech toys that teach block programming to building structures with various materials, the library offers a place where any child can learn while having fun.”
