The first week back to school after Christmas break, was a short one, as students enjoyed a second snow day, Friday, in the Kincardine area. The first snow day was Monday.
After a couple of warm days with rain (Wednesday and Thursday), freezing rain arrived, making roads slippery in the morning, and the forecast was calling for colder temperatures and snow later in the day.
This resulted in the cancellation of all school buses into Kincardine, with no in-town pick-ups either, affecting Ecole Elgin Market, Huron Heights, Kincardine Township-Tiverton, St. Anthony's, and Kincardine District Secondary School. There were also no buses to schools in Ripley and Lucknow. However, all schools were open.
By late Friday, there was significant snowfall and high wind, with some blowing and drifting snow. However, all roads remained open.
The cold and snow are expected to continue through the weekend, with warmer temperatures and some sun next week.
