Film crew from Guelph shoots video at Station Beach, Kincardine
June 19, 2018
A camera crew drew quite a bit of attention as it was shooting a video on Station Beach, Kincardine, Tuesday.
The video is part of a campaign launch by the Guelph company, Cupanion – Your Eco-Drinking Buddy, which produces reusable cups and water bottles. Opened in 2012, the company is owned and operated by Matt Wittek, with Allan Babor, director of strategic partnerships.
Wittek said the video will be used to launch an app (cell phone application) in support of getting rid of plastic water bottles.
“We're launching the 'Fill it Forward' app June 27,” he said. “Every time you refill your reusable water bottle, and use the app to tap the code on the side of the water bottle, you give a cup of clean water to someone in need. Each cup you give will help fund water-based projects around the world through WaterAid Canada.
“With the app, you can also easily track waste diverted, emissions saved, and how much ocean pollution you have prevented. Our goal is to eliminate plastic water bottles.”
The video depicts Wittek's nine-year-old daughter, Serena, swimming in the lake surrounded by plastic, as well as actress Melissa Boerger urging people to use the 'Fill it Forward' app.
The filming was being done by High Rise Studio of Conestoga (near Guelph), with director Matt Ninaber, and crew members Jennifer Lloyd, Andrew Dougherty, Abigail Alvarez and Brent Tremain.
So why Kincardine?
“It's a beautiful place,” said Ninaber who has shot a couple of videos here before. “It's one of my favourite beaches, and the community is awesome. Ash and Tonya of West Shore loaned us a bunch of props for the video. It's been great!”
The crew began shooting at about 7:30 a.m., and was hoping to wrap up by mid-afternoon.
