STEWART "STEW" TAYLOR

December 20, 2024

Stewart “Stew” Taylor of Owen Sound, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died at Chapman House, Dec. 20, 2024, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 77. Stew lived life to the fullest and his accomplishments were many. He was a teacher, school principal, alderman, councillor, and mayor of Owen Sound; Justice of the Peace, and Regional Senior Justice of the West Region. He truly loved all of these positions. He took great pride in working endlessly to bring the Junior “A” Platers to Owen Sound from Guelph and was pleased, as mayor, to have local ownership buy and keep the team, now known as The Attack. Even as his health failed and he was unable to go to The Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre, Stew never missed an Attack game at home or away on TV. Stew is the son of the late Earl and Marian (Vincent) Taylor. He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Sharon (Robinson) Taylor; daughter, Angela Bolton; and son, Matthew Taylor, and his wife Erin Woolnough. Stew was so proud of his grandchildren, Emily, Richard, and Stewart Bolton. He is also remembered by the children’s father, Shane Bolton. Stew is survived by many family members and friends, as well as his beloved fur babies. Bob and Louie. In keeping with Stew’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to attend a Come-and-Go Visitation in his memory at the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 - 14TH Street W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, Friday, Dec. 27, 2024, 2-5 p.m., to reminisce with his friends and family. A special thank you to the many health-care professionals who helped Stew and his family during their time of need: the Owen Sound Hospital for its excellent care, to Stew’s home care team, his palliative care team, and to the Grey County Paramedics who were always only a call away. We thank the staff and volunteers at Chapman House Hospice for making his last days so comfortable, for Stew and our family. To our family physician, Dr. Ana Blake, thank you for always being there for Stew. Memorial donations in Stew’s memory may be made to Chapman House, the Owen Sound Hospital, or a charity of your choosing, through the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home.
