AUDREY MAY HANCOCK (nee CALLABY)
July 10, 2025
Audrey May Hancock (nee Callaby) of Kincardine, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, died July 10, 2025, at the age of 91. Born May 21, 1934, in Middlesbrough, England, to Carrie and Albert Callaby, Audrey’s life was marked by warmth, adventure, and deep devotion to those she loved. She married Denis Hancock, and they raised three children: Janet Anne, Graham Andrew, and Michael John. Audrey’s family grew to include her daughters-in-law, Janet and Vicki; son-in-law, Dan; seven grandchildren, Emily, Jonas (Andrea), Nicole, Michelle (Mike), Ben (Jade), Kaitlin (Michael), and Brittany (Jacob); and four great-grandchildren, Beatrix, Mabel, Lue, and Liam, all of whom were the lights of her life. A life-long nurturer, Audrey worked as a child-care provider and nursery school teacher, bringing kindness and joy to generations of children. Her love for young ones didn’t end with her career — she delighted in sharing songs and whimsical stories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating treasured memories that will endure. Audrey’s adventurous spirit led her across the globe, exploring faraway places with curiosity and wonder. In 2002, after the death of her husband, Audrey moved to Kincardine where she quickly widened her circle of friends. She joined the local Red Hat Society and eventually became Queen of the local chapter. In her later years, she found community and comfort at Trillium Court Seniors’ Community, where she formed deep bonds with both staff and fellow residents. Her “coffee gang” — a lively group of dear friends — was a cherished part of her weekly routine, offering laughter, love, and unwavering support. Despite facing numerous health challenges in her final years, Audrey remained resilient and determined to live life fully. Her courage, humour, and boundless spirit touched all who knew her. Audrey will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered. Her stories, laughter, and the warmth she brought into every room will live on in the hearts of those lucky enough to have known her. A Celebration of Life will be held at Trillium Court, 550 Phillip Place, Kincardine, with details to follow. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Canada or the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation, would be appreciated.
