BRENDA JOAN REID (nee GOTTSCHALK)

August 11, 2025

Brenda Joan Reid (nee Gottschalk) of Walkerton, died peacefully, Aug. 11, 2025, at Chapman House in Owen Sound, at the age of 71. She faced a courageous battle with lung cancer and was surrounded by her family and loved ones in her final moments. A life as full of love as Brenda’s is one to be celebrated. Born in Kincardine, she was the youngest daughter of Wilbur and Reta Gottschalk. Her fun-loving and spirited nature blossomed while growing up on the 2nd of Bruce near Tiverton. After graduating from the first cohort of Sheridan College's nanny program, she had a long and fulfilling career nurturing many young lives, most notably as a beloved and integral part of the Sisnett family, with whom she spent 14 cherished years. Brenda’s youthful years were spent having good ol’ fashioned fun with her friends. One of her favourite places was the Boiler Beach Roller Skating Rink, where she spent countless evenings going round and round to rock n’ roll music. She had a life-long passion for figure skating, one she shared with dear friends in her many trips to World Figure Skating Championships. April 27, 1996, Brenda married the love of her life, Edward “Ted” William Reid, at Knox Presbyterian Church in Tiverton. Their love story began in childhood, rekindled at the 1993 Tiverton Fall Fair dance. It's a heart-warming tale that Ted loves to tell, be sure to ask him about it. They spent nearly three decades building a life together filled with laughter and travel - always dreaming about the next great adventure - and of course, the excitement of stock car racin’. Brenda’s warmth and vibrant spirit will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind: her devoted husband, Ted; her stepdaughters, Shannon Desjardins, Candace Maguire, and Kathryn Hurst; and her adored grandsons, Lukas and Jackson Hurst, and Reid Maguire. She also leaves behind her brother, Bill Gottschalk; and sister, Jeannie Woods; as well as many nieces and nephews who will forever remember her infectious laugh and the way she made every family gathering brighter. Predeceased by her much-loved sister, Joyce Rice; and best friend, Marilyn (Mere). Brenda was a talented craftswoman. She poured her heart into every handmade quilt, card, and T-shirt, creating cherished gifts that were tangible expressions of her love and creativity. Her passing leaves a void in our hearts, but her spirit, vibrant and full of love, will forever shine bright. A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, Aug. 18, 2025, from 1-4 p.m., at the Cameron Funeral Home, Walkerton, beginning with a memorial service at 1 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Chapman House (Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce) or the Canadian Cancer Society, in place of flowers, would be appreciated by the family.
