PAUL HAROLD PENTLAND
September 3, 2025
Paul Harold Pentland of the Nile died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025, at the age of 58, after a short, brave battle with cancer. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Rosemary; and seven children, Eugenia, George, Emma, Isabelle, Queenie, Opal and Pearl Pentland. Loved by his mother-in-law, Barbara Gorman; and his father-in-law, Chris Burdzy; as well as his sister-in-law, Susan Jane; and nephew, Azrael Burdzy. Missed by his many cousins, especially Jeff Pentland, Robert Pentland and Randy Pentland and their families; as well as his other large family at Compass Minerals Goderich Mine. Paul was a kind gentleman, a farmer, father, and friend. He loved his life on the farm near Nile being a dairy and beef farmer. He loved all things John Deere, and his Ford trucks! He was an avid Huron County Plowman, and even though he always seemed to come in third in his class, he just ate, slept and breathed everything plowing, and recently, taught his daughters to compete. He adored all his children and was a devoted father for the past 27 years, teaching his only son and team of daughters how to farm, how to learn to do things for themselves, and to work hard. After the dairy side of farming was retired, he accepted a job at Sifto Salt mine, now known as Compass Minerals, where he started out working as a miner, being one of the first to use the new continuous miner equipment at the time, and enjoyed working along with his fellow union brothers. He later went on to become a ground control supervisor, managing a crew. He enjoyed his job at the mine very much, and the friendships he made there over the years; it became a very important part of his life. The family thanks all of Paul’s medical teams - doctors, nurses, specialists, and PSWs - who helped care for him on his journey! Also to friends, neighbours, cousins, co-workers and strangers for their prayers, well wishes, visits, cards, donations of food, money, fixing equipment, field work, and helping with the cattle. We welcome Paul’s friends to a come-and-go Celebration of Life, Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025, from 1-4 p.m., in Dungannon at the former insurance office, 81 Southampton Street. Please use the big front doors, wheelchair accessible. Private burial to take place. Donations may be made to the Alexandra Marine and General Hospital in Goderich, in Paul’s name; arrangements entrusted to the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow.
