September 2, 2025
Doris “Elaine” Emmerton (nee Smith) of Emmerton Beach in Huron-Kinloss Township, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, in her 85th year. Beloved mother of Jackie Emmerton and Shane Emmerton; and adoring grandmother of Cooper. Missed by her siblings, Lorrainne Smith, Leonard and Liz Smith, Pat and John Kane, Keith Shaw, and Carl Shaw; siblings-in-law, Helen and Chris Petre, Terry and Elly Emmerton, Danny and Nancy Emmerton, Sally Emmerton, and Kenny and Glenda Emmerton; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by John Emmerton; her parents, Alta and John Smith; sister, Joan Sauve; and in-laws, Bert Emmerton, Lynn Emmerton, and Nancy and Russel Swan. Elaine had a long career as a teacher, starting in the one-room schoolhouse at the foot of the 4th Concession of Huron Township where she tried to tame a crop of Emmerton and Lowry boys, among others. She moved on to London after marrying John and eventually returned to Emmerton Beach to start a family. Once the kids got off to school, she had a lengthy career at W. E. Thompson Public School in Kincardine, followed by an equally lengthy retirement during which she did some travelling, volunteered for the Legion Auxiliary in Ripley, “lunched” with various groups, and tended her gardens. She went to the gym every day and walked multiple times a day for as long as she could. She will be missed. Following Elaine’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Lurgan, Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025, at 2 p.m., with visitation two hours prior (12-2 p.m.). Interment, St. Luke’s Cemetery. Donations to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation or St. Luke’s Anglican Church, would be greatly appreciated as expressions of sympathy; arrangements entrusted to the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Ripley.
