Audrey Muriel Smith (nee Moore) of Dutton, formerly of Kincardine, died at the Bobier Villa Home in Dutton, Friday, Sept. 12, 2025, in her 100th year. Beloved wife of the late William Lawrence 'Larry' Smith (2013). Loving mother of Robin (Monique) and Jeremy (Sherry, 2016) Smith. Missed by her grandchildren, Ashley Smith and Brittany (Brian Hooyer); and great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Noah, Kaleb, Zachary and Jordyn (Hooyer). Also missed by her niece, Desna Ingard (Eric). Predeceased by her parents, Minnie (nee Colin) and William Moore; brother, Gerald (Pauline, Rosemary); and nephew, Douglas Moore. Audrey was born in Birmingham, England, Oct. 27, 1924. While living in Coventry, England, she enjoyed gymnastics, swimming, camping, and cycling with the Birmingham Ramblers Cycle Club, and travelling around Europe. She worked for the City of Birmingham as a government officer. She won first-class certificates for typing and shorthand in 1952. While in church, she heard this rather raucous laugh coming from a man named Larry Smith whom she later met at the Stratford Upon Avon Theatre. She and Larry were married in 1954. Together, they travelled and attended some crazy costume parties. Sons Robin and Jeremy came along in 1957 and 1960, respectively. Audrey had dogs as pets when she was young, and her love of dogs she later shared with Larry up into her late 80s. Seeking a new life in 1966, Audrey, Larry, the kids and their dog, Butch, sailed to Canada and lived in Hamilton, then Burlington. Opportunity at Ontario Hydro, Douglas Point, brought them to Kincardine in 1971. A member of the Baha'i Faith, Audrey was also active in the Kincardine Hospital Auxiliary. With Larry, she enjoyed kicking up her heels with the Kincardine Tartan Twirlers Square Dance Club. They were also members of the Huron Fringe Field Naturalists. Audrey was quite artistic, being able to paint and draw faces and animals free-hand. She enjoyed painting ceramics as well. She and Larry enjoyed trips to the 'Tub' – Tobermory, that is. They moved to Point Clark for a while then back to Kincardine. Larry died in 2013, and Audrey gave up her driver's licence, moved to Malcolm Place and got a scooter; she could be seen zipping around merrily. Visitation will be held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, 757 Prices St., Kincardine, Friday, Sept. 19, 2025, from 11a.m. until the time of the service at 12 p.m., with Colette Harman officiating.
