BARRY STANHOPE JONES

November 24, 2025

Barry Stanhope Jones of Kincardine died Nov. 24, 2025, surrounded by family and friends, at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Kincardine, at the age of 74. Barry (Baz to those he loved) is survived by his beloved wife, Tanya; children, Nina Jones (Todd Porter), Jamie Jones (Richelle Forsey), and Owen Jones (Emalee Dell); and prankster grandad of Callum Porter and Hunter Jones. He will be deeply missed by his brother-in-law, John Moore; sister-in-law, Danuta Bennett (Ron Hawrysh); and his extended family in the United Kingdom (U.K.) and Canada. Predeceased by his parents, Charles and Winifred Jones; brother, Arthur Jones (Amy); sister, Loretta Moore; and his in-laws, Arthur and Anna Bennett. Born in Birkenhead, England, in 1951, Barry trained as a chemical operator and started his career with Shell U.K. The expansion of the Bruce Heavy Water Plant in Kincardine prompted him to move his young family to Canada in November of 1977 - just in time to experience the Dec. 9 snowstorm that dumped nearly 40 inches of snow in southwestern Ontario! Despite the snow, Barry stayed and enjoyed a 32-year career as a chemical operator at Ontario Power General (OPG)/Bruce Power, finishing his career in procurement and modifications. After retirement, he became a dedicated volunteer board member, organizer, and champion of the Kincardine Scottish Festival and Highland Games. Barry was a generous man, with a keen sense of humour and witty one-liners. He was known to friends and family as someone to call when something needed repair and would arrive with tools (and Owen!), ready to fix anything. He loved camping and travel and was never one to miss an opportunity to bathe in the warmth of the sun, especially when it was tropical. He experimented, annually, with ways to reap a harvest from his vegetable garden before the deer and woodland creatures of Bruce County had their fill. Barry will be remembered fondly by his family as the ultimate supervisor of tasks, and a connoisseur of the Tetley tea bag, perfectly-poured pints, chocolate mousse, and electronic dance music. His love for his family was rivalled only by his love and dedication for the Liverpool Football Club. The family expresses gratitude to Dr. Jason Murray and McKechnie Pharmacy for their outstanding care, and to the nurses and support staff at the Kincardine Hospital. Respecting Barry’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2026 in Kincardine. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation for the Kincardine Hospital "Building Health Care for Generations" campaign or the Breakthrough T1D organization would be appreciated by the family.
