JOHN R. MILLER

February 23, 2026

John R. Miller, formerly of Kincardine, died peacefully, Feb. 23, 2026, at the age of 87. Born July 9, 1938, in Kincardine, John was the fourth of five children born to Dorothy Farrell and Ralph Miller. He was educated in Kincardine and later enrolled in Stratford Teachers' College. He then taught in Toronto, Stratford, Northern Quebec, Fraserdale (Smooth Rock Falls), and finally, Haliburton in 1973. Beyond his many musical and professional accomplishments, John lived a life deeply rooted in his Christian faith and a love of nature and humanity. His beliefs were not just spoken but lived out through qualities of generosity, integrity, kindness, stewardship, and the way he lifted others with music, laughter, and inclusivity. Whether walking his dog, Thomas, by himself or playing music for crowds and directing traffic, he found joy in both solitude and connection, as well as a true desire to serve. Survived by his loving wife, Jane (Dobbyn) of Comber; and his children, Lisa (Jay Marchant) and Kent. Also remembered by his grandchildren, Keylan Marchant, Jaimie (Spencer), and Margaret (Ben); as well as his oldest sister, Marion Mackay; and younger brother, Don Miller. Loved by many fabulous in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sisters, Helen Thomas and Joan Taylor. As per John's request, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11 a.m., at the Haliburton United Church, 10 George Street, Haliburton. As expressions of sympathy, donations in John's memory may be made to the Haliburton 4Cs Food Bank, Woodlands Wildlife Sanctuary, or Places for People; arrangements entrusted to the Haliburton Community Funeral Home, Haliburton. "Every life is noted and cherished, and nothing loved is ever lost or perished." — Madeleine L'Engle. Heaven just got a beautiful new voice.
