NORMAN JAMES "SAM" MacGREGOR

February 26, 2026

Norman James “Sam” MacGregor of Kincardine, a resident of Inverlyn Lake Estates in Huron-Kinloss Township, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026, in his 93rd year. Predeceased by the love of his life, Joan (née Nicholas), with whom he shared a lifetime of partnership and devotion. A proud and dedicated developer, Sam took great pride in his many ventures and in helping shape the Kincardine community. After returning to the area from Stratford in 1960, Sam and Joan began with a humble hot dog stand on Boiler Beach. From there, they expanded their dreams, establishing the Boiler Beach Family Campground, a miniature golf course, and a roller rink. He went on to develop many of Kincardine’s subdivisions, leaving a lasting mark on the town he loved. With the expansion of Ontario Hydro and an influx of construction workers to the area, Sam recognized the growing need for accommodations and built the Sutton Park Inn. Never one to shy away from a challenge, he later worked tirelessly alongside many valued business associates and his cherished best friend, Bob Krupp, on one of his most ambitious projects: introducing Ontario Hydro to co-generation and the development of the Bruce Energy Centre. Sam lived a life of purpose, guided by his belief that you should always leave the world better than you found it. Above all, his greatest accomplishment was his family. He was a steady sounding board and moral compass, instilling in his children and grandchildren the values of integrity, hard work, and perseverance. He was the proud and devoted father of Deborah (Gord) Brindley, Heather (Mike) Doyle, and Annie (Dale) Small. Cherished Papa of Nick (Claire), Hannah (Cole), Kasey (Larissa), Sami, Cari, Mikaila (Elyse), Joey, Olivia (Cody), Grace (Mike), and Seamus (Taylor), and proud great-grandfather of 13-plus great-grandchildren, along with extended family of Diane Small, and Courtney and Matt McDonald. He will also be missed by his sisters, Marion MacLeod and Shirley Colquhoun; sisters-in-law, June McGregor and Dorothy Rowland; and his many cherished nieces and nephews. Sam was predeceased by his siblings, Mort McGregor, Donna (Jack) Howard, and Benny (Ray) Murray; his brothers-in-law, Jim Holroyd, Donald MacLeod, Bob Colquhoun, Jack Rowland, and Henry (Barb) Nicholas; his sister-in-law, Marjorie (Russ) Plaskett; his great-niece, Bobbie Jo Holroyd; and his parents, Norman and Annie (née MacLeod) McGregor. A private family funeral will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2026, followed by a celebration of life at the Inverlyn Lake Estates Clubhouse from 3-5 p.m., open to friends and the community. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Ripley Agricultural Society or Huron Shores Hospice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
