BRYCE EDGAR TANNER

March 7, 2026

Bryce Edgar Tanner of Toronto, formerly of Kincardine, died peacefully, surrounded by family, at the Kincardine Hospital, March 7, 2026, in his 92nd year. Survived by his two children, Kim Tanner (Pete Harding) and Greg (Angie) Tanner. Proud Papa of Deanie (Harry), Georgia (Jayce) and Ryan (Bella). Predeceased by his wife, Anne Marie (nee MacDonald); parents, Edgar and Lilian (nee Bryce) Tanner; and his mother-in-law, Murdena MacDonald. Born in 1935, Bryce was raised in Toronto but fashioned himself a country boy, spending many summers working on his uncle’s farm in Paisley. Farm work was a highlight of his younger years on the Bryce Farm. Graduating from the University of Toronto, his first job brought him to the Kincardine High School at the age of 22. It is there that he met many close friends and his wife of 57 years, Anne Marie MacDonald. Anyone who knew Bryce knew he could never sit still for long. He and Anne moved to Kitchener for a short stint to upgrade his teacher qualifications and then he took a teaching job in Toronto (North York). In 1972, they decided to try overseas teaching in Germany for two years. This gave the family plenty of opportunity to travel around Europe. After Germany, it was back to Toronto, teaching in a school at Jane and Finch for a few years. Then full circle back to Kincardine in 1976 where he completed his teaching career after 33 years, in 1991. He formed many close friendships during these years and many fun times. Enjoying 35 years of retirement gave them the opportunity to keep moving and travelling. They did many road trips though the United States and Mexico. He and Anne would rent apartments in France to act as a central hub, to travel through Europe. Throughout their marriage, Bryce and Anne were avid walkers and this didn’t change in retirement. Bryce loved playing piano and was a keen reader. He followed politics very closely and would love intense debates with anyone willing to partake. He was a character in life and always appreciated a story. Kim and Greg would love to hear from anyone who has a story about Bryce, by sending an E-mail to kim.tanner@outlook.com or record a video about your story. Bryce’s Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 2-6 p.m., at 4 Kearns Lane in Kincardine. Speeches honouring him will be at 3 p.m., with appetizers served. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Grey Bruce, in place of flowers, would be greatly appreciated by the family. Donations and condolences may be made on-line at www.daveylinklaterfuneralhome.com.
