Greta Thurber (Kenney), formerly of Ripley, beloved wife of the late Linden Thurber, died Aug. 22, 2017, at the age of 77. Born in Westport, Nova Scotia, Jan. 19, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Viola (Denton) and Daniel Kenney. Mother of Chris (Sherri) of Houston, B.C.; Cheryl (Dan) of Ripley; and Rod (Jacqueline) of Gaetz Brook, N.S. Proud Nana of five grandchildren: Kristin, Ashton, Bethany, Nina and Eric. Missed by siblings, Gail Titus of Oakville; Danny (Theresa) of Westport, N.S.; and Penny Graham of Westport, N.S. Predeceased by sister, Nancy Swift; and brothers-in-law, Gary Titus and Roy Graham. Fondly remembered by the Thurber family, Avis (Hugh) Faulkner, Gordon (Elizabeth) Thurber, and Arden (Sandy) Thurber. Greta graduated as a registered nurse from the Saint John General Hospital School of Nursing in 1960, and enjoyed a wonderful and rewarding career across Canada, retiring from the Ridge Meadows Hospital, British Columbia, in the spring of 2000. She spent her retirement years in Ripley before moving back to Nova Scotia in 2016. She loved travelling in her RV, knitting, sewing, quilting, community choirs, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held at the Westport United Baptist Church, Westport, N.S., Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, at 1:30 p.m., followed by a burial at sea.
