Farmer and former Bruce Township deputy reeve, Kenneth Bruce MacLean, died suddenly Friday, Aug. 25, 2017, in his 89th year. Kenny, loving husband of Mona (nee Kissack). Beloved Dad of Bruce and his wife, Mary Lynn; and Chris and her husband, David Quilietti. Proud and loving Grandpa of Stuart (Sarah), and Mary Kathleen (Andrew); and Great-Grandpa of Caleb and Felix. Predeceased by his sister, Annabelle MacGregor; and his brother, John. Kenny began his career as a farmer on the original farm, taken out from the Crown in 1854, and expanding to a second farm just prior to marrying the love of his life, Mona. Shortly after they were married, he began a second career as a councillor for Bruce Township, then moved into the position of deputy reeve, as well as becoming a member of the Bruce County South Planning Board and Bruce County Council, where he was instrumental in achieving many of the infrastructure benefits the township still relies on today. His next career took him to the board of directors of the West Wawanosh Insurance Company, where he decided that he’d like to sell insurance. He had a very successful business for many years until retirement. Kenny was an avid Jays, Leafs and 78th Fraser Highlanders Pipe Band fan, no matter their luck. He was also a devoted member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Glammis, as well as an elder for many decades. Family was his joy and there was nothing he loved more than a family gathering. He was a proud Mason and Shriner. In 1980, he served as Master of Aldworth Lodge in Paisley, and in 1992, as District Deputy Grand Master for Bruce District. He was also a member of the Bruce Shrine Club and Mocha Temple, London. He loved participating in the parades and his fund-raising work. Friends will be received Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., at the T.A. Brown Funeral Home, 510 Mill Street, Port Elgin (519-832-2222). The funeral will be held Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, 1403 Bruce County Road 15, Glammis, with Rev. David Chang officiating. Interment, Port Bruce Cemetery, Underwood. Memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Cancer Society, would be appreciated by the family. |
