Marie Book (Malcolm) of Kincardine died peacefully at her home, May 31, 2021, surrounded by her immediate and loving family. She was 83. She was raised in Brantford, and later, with husband Barrett (Barry), revelled in raising an active family and creating wonderful, life-long friendships in Mississauga. The family home on Jenner Court was never short on laughter and spirited times, filled with neighbours of all ages who became friends, who became family. When not at home, Marie and Barrie travelled the Caribbean, creating memories that would last a lifetime. But Marie’s favourite destination, and eventually their home, was Inverhuron, on the shores of Lake Huron. First, at their cottage, and then moving to a permanent home in the area, the sands of Inverhuron Beach extended their love of life, with old and new friends at treasured homes and cottages that carried such names as The Canadian Club, Duna, Sandy Knoll, Duna II, and the Lime Kiln. We will all remember Marie in one of her favourite roles, hosting a Labour Day cocktail party with Caesar in hand. While raising a family, Marie also enjoyed many years of bridge club, curling, golf, and volunteer work. She took on careers in the travel industry and retail sales, becoming the first female sales representative for H.J. Heinz. She faced the challenges in her life with determination and courage, including caring for her husband through his long illness and end of life. Besides her husband, she is predeceased by her parents, John Malcolm and Helen Newberry; and her daughter-in-law, Diane Book. Sadly missed by her son, Barrett Book; daughter, Suzanne Book and husband, Randy MacArthur; and daughter, Jennifer Zych and husband, Kevin; as well as her grandchildren, Stephen Book and Lauren Fitzgerald, Johnathan and Allison Book, Jenny Mae and Pierce Britt, Alex Zych, Jake Zych, and Daniel MacArthur; and her two great-grandchildren, Ruby Fitzgerald-Book and Rowen Britt. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
