The Nicol Insurance Kincardine Junior "C" Bulldogs spent the weekend on the road, coming home with a 7-2 win over the Goderich Flyers and a heart-breaking 4-3 overtime loss against the Wingham Ironmen.
Saturday night, the Bulldogs dominated the Flyers from the opening whistle to the final buzzer.
Jordan Bell scored an unassisted marker at the 12:44 mark, followed in short order by a goal from Gerrit Satosek. Shawn Moore and Alex Labrosse drew the assists on the Satosek goal to make it 2-0.
Goderich clawed one back before the end of the first, but the second period saw the roof fall in on the Flyers.
Four straight goals from Kincardine in the period established a strangle-hold on the game for the Dogs. Matthew Mah got the run started just 20 seconds into the period`, with assists to Moore and Morrison. Wiejak scored at 10:01, with Mike Smailes and Colin Whitfield getting the helpers. Dalton Hnatko then popped a pair in for the Dogs in a three-minute span, with assists going to Keegan McLelland, and Brady Richards assisting on both.
Bell closed out the scoring for Kincardine with his powerplay marker just 54 seconds into the third period, with Wiejak and Smailes drawing the helpers.
Goderich managed to hit the scoresheet one final time in the third, but it was far from enough as the Dogs won by a final of 7-2.
Sunday’s contest against the Ironmen was a close`-checking match, with the teams exchanging scoring chances in the opening period, but nobody able to find the back of the net until Kincardine`s Derrick Bernath got things started at the 1:52 mark of the second period. Brady Richards and Matthew Mah drew helpers on the goal that put the Dogs up 1-0.
The Ironmen answered back with a pair of goals of their own, sending the game to the third with Wingham leading 2-1.
Kincardine came out strong in the third, and Dalton Hnatko tied the game at 2-2, at the 5:29 mark of the third when he was set up nicely by Shawn Moore and Jordan Bell. Kincardine continued to pressure the Ironmen, and the hustle paid off big time when Brycin Morrison sprang Patrick Wiejak free while the Dogs were killing a penalty. Wiejak sent the twine flying to give the ``Dogs a 3-2 lead with just over 10 minutes left in the third.
Wingham tied the game with just over five minutes to go, forcing overtime. And the Ironmen needed a mere 51 seconds in the overtime to secure the victory 4-3.
