Kincardine Bantam Kinucks win divisional championship at Kincardine Regional Silver Stick hockey tournament
The Kincardine Bantam Kinucks were celebrating Tuesday evening (Dec. 30) at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine, after winning the "B" championship at the 28th annual Kincardine Regional Silver Stick hockey tournament.
The Kinucks faced off against Tavistock, with the two teams evenly-matched, resulting in a 0-0 score through to the third period. At one point, it looked as if this was more a battle of the goaltenders who were both solid between the pipes.
Kincardine's Bryce McFadden got the first goal of the game late in the third period. Minutes later, Matt Harrison made it 2-0 for Kincardine and the fans went wild. An empty-net goal moments later, made it 3-0 for the Kinucks who appeared to have this championship in the bag.
And they did; however, Tavistock managed to score one goal with 14 seconds remaining, to ruin the shut-out for Kincardine goalie Jamie Brock.
Brock was named player of the game, and medals were handed out to both teams, before the championship banner was presented to Kincardine.
The Kinucks now advance to the International Silver Stick finals, set for Jan. 23-25, 2015, in Forest.
Meanwhile, the Kincardine Peewees took on Penetang in the regional championship game Tuesday afternoon, but lost 4-1, meaning Penetang moves on to the International Silver Stick finals, also in Forest, Jan. 9-11, 2015.
