Bulldogs fall to Mount Forest, but trounce Walkerton

October 14, 2021

The Kincardine Bulldogs split games on the weekend, falling to the Mount Forest Patriots, 5-3, but trouncing the Walkerton Hawks, 10-2, in the Pollock Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL).

In Mount Forest, Friday night, Kincardine opened the scoring early in the first on a goal by Bryce McFadden from Steven Grant. Midway through the game, the ‘Dogs made it a 2-0 game, on a goal by Jason Taylor from Ben Nauta.

Mount Forest scored minutes later to make it a 2-1 game.

The Patriots added two more in the second to take the lead, 3-2; and then quickly added another goal in the final frame, to make it 4-2.

Gavin Gibbons put the Bulldogs within one, assisted by Jordan Beisel. But Mount Forest scored near the end of the game, taking the 5-3 win.

Kincardine goalie Josh Jacklin faced 35 shots and made 30 saves.

Saturday night, the Bulldogs faced off against the Walkerton Hawks at the Davidson Centre.

The Hawks opened the scoring early in the first, but minutes later, Carter Servais scored from Liam Colhoun and Caleb Morrison, to tie the game at 1-1.

Kincardine then took over, scoring five unanswered goals before the end of the first period. Grant scored from Jordan Moulton and Parker Miller, on the powerplay; Gavin Downs scored, unassisted; Grant scored his second, from McFadden; Colhoun scored from Servais; and Downs scored his second goal, unassisted.

Kincardine added two more goals in the second, as Servais scored from Nauta; and Austin Waite scored, unassisted. The Hawks added a goal, making it an 8-2 game by the end of two periods of play.

The Bulldogs padded their lead, with two more goals in the final frame, to take the 10-2 win. Moulton scored from Carson English and Taylor; and McFadden scored from Miller and Grant.

Kincardine goalie Ryan Tanner had 20 saves on 22 shots.

Because it was Thanksgiving weekend, Saturday night also saw a Turkey Toss by mothers of the Bulldogs players. The ladies were assisted out onto the ice by their sons, and had to toss a frozen turkey from centre ice and try to hit the goalie net at the other end. If they “scored,” they won the turkey.

The ‘Dogs travel to Wingham tomorrow night (Oct. 15) for a 7 p.m. game against the Ironmen, and are back at the Davidson Centre, Saturday night (Oct. 16), for a 7:30 p.m. match against the Hanover Barons.
