Tiverton Arena closed Christmas Eve due to limited staff resources
There have been concerns in the Tiverton community that the arena will not be open Christmas Eve for families to rent, as they have in the past.
Kincardine community services director Jayne Jagelewski says the decision was made to keep only one facility open, the Davidson Centre in the Town of Kincardine, Christmas Eve, due to limited staff resources.
“Staff is certainly stretched thin over the Christmas season,” she said, via E-mail. “Like all staff, it is important that workers at the Tiverton Sports Centre and the Davidson Centre have a well-deserved Christmas break as well. Not only for their mental health, but for the ability to enjoy their time with their own families.
“We needed to decide which facility to keep open until Noon, Dec. 24, and with only one staff available to cover, it was determined it would be the Davidson Centre due to the larger number of bookings.
“In an ideal world, it would be great to have both facilities open until Noon on the 24th, but it just can’t occur this year. Typically, both facilities would close at Noon on the 24th so that workers can enjoy the holidays with their families.”
