Ripley Wolves drop two games in Senior "A" hockey action
The Ripley Wolves lost two games last week in Senior "A" hockey action.
Tuesday, (Dec. 30), the Wolves travelled to Port Elgin and were shut out, 8-0, by the Winterhawks.
On home ice at the Ripley Arena, Saturday night, the Wolves were in much better form, taking the Mapleton-Minto 81s to a 3-3 tie, but being edged out in overtime.
The game was scoreless through the first period, with the Wolves opening the scoring early in the second, on a goal by Cody Britton from Brett Catto
The 81s tied the game minutes later, and within the next five minutes, both teams scored again to end the period at 2-2. Ripley's marker came off the stick of Drew Davidson, assisted by Tyler McCarthy.
Mapleton-Minto took a brief 3-2 lead, late in the third, before Catto scored seconds later, from Jeremy McQuillin and Davidson, to end regulation time at a 3-3 tie, forcing the game into overtime.
With less than five minutes remaining in the overtime period, the 81s scored to take the 4-3 win.
The Wolves travel to Elora Friday, and are back at the Ripley Arena for two home games the following weekend: Friday, Jan. 16, at 8:30 p.m., against Shelburne; and Saturday, Jan. 17, at 7:30 p.m., against Saugeen Shores - Jan. 17 is Tyke Night.
