Why do we need a waterfront master plan now?

Why do we need a waterfront master plan now?
To the Editor:

Thursday evening, we headed to Station Beach, Kincardine, to attend the open house for a new waterfront master plan. Trouble is, we found no sign of an open house. We then had a look at the beach north of the harbour before driving out to the municipal hall. We found no clues as to where the meeting was being held.

When we arrived home, we found a notice on the municipal website stating that, because of weather, the meeting had been transferred to the Davidson Centre. There were a few drops of rain, but not enough to change the venue.

Maybe Kincardine doesn’t want public input. One thing is obvious, though, no one seems to be accountable.

The public should be asking: Why do we need a waterfront plan now?

A lot of money went into Dunsmoor Park last year. This year, new volleyball courts were installed at Station Beach. And how can the gardens tended by volunteers each year be improved upon? It’s not that long ago the children’s play area was installed at the south end of the boardwalk.

What the beachfront needs is a lot of tender care. Instead of spending money on more consultants, why not repair the boardwalk, keep it free of sand, and replace the signage which tells people to stay off the native grasses?
