Kincardine’s “21 and 9” seeks title in Battle of the Bands contest, Saturday night
Local band, “21 and 9,” is looking to bring the musical title back to Kincardine this Saturday night, Oct. 22, in the second annual Battle of the Bands at Bar Down in Kincardine.
The four-piece hard rock band has had a very successful 2022, playing before a crowd of thousands at the Kincardine Bulldogs Dance in August, along with multiple shows in and around the Kincardine area. The band has also had several of its singles, “Fade Away” and “Thinline,” added to rotation on 97.9 The Bruce and 95.5 Shoreline Classics.

The Battle of the Bands has three competitors, only one of which is a Kincardine band.
“We have been very fortunate to have strong support from the community, not just in 2022, but since we started,” said bass guitarist Johnny Culbert. “We are hoping the rock music fans will either come out and support us this Saturday or watch on-line on Facebook and vote, starting at 8 p.m. We’re hoping we can win this thing for Kincardine this weekend.”
The two founding members of “21 and 9,” Rob Edwards (vocals) and Culbert have played together for more than 25 years in a variety of different bands and as a duo. Dane Dunlop (drums) and Zach Brajuha (lead guitar) round out the foursome.
The band released an EP in 2021, entitled “So…,” recorded at Beach Road Studios near Goderich with JUNO award winner Siegfried Meier, and is headed back to the studio to record a full-length follow-up album Oct. 29.
“We truly love our town, as you can tell by our logo of the Kincardine lighthouse, and we wanted to keep this record local, so we’re recording both with Siegfried and in town with Mike Abercrombie for the next album,” said Culbert.
Tickets for the Bar Down Battle of the Bands are $10 at the door, with the event and Facebook live-stream beginning at 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22. Voting runs from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Visit the Bar Down Kincardine Facebook page for more information.
