In praise of Huron Shores Hospice in Tiverton
To the Editor:
RE: “Get Real: Let me tell you about my sister-in-law, Sharon”
Thank you, Liz for this.
End of life is hard to accept but it is one day inevitable. I am one of the people who work at Tiverton Park Manor and help care for the residents at Huron Shores Hospice there.
At first, it was hard but as caregivers, we care for our hospice, and all our residents, as if they were our own family, and yes, sometimes it is hard to say goodbye.
Many times I’m asked why I would do this work? I do this because I want the patients to know that when they take their last breath, someone is with them to hold their hand so they aren’t alone. Most times, the family is there but when it’s night, and the family has gone home for some needed rest, they can be assured that we are there.
Huron Shores Hospice has been a blessing in the community and the staff members who organize it are truly angels. I hope everyone realizes just how much they all do.
Please support Huron Shores Hospice in any way you can, whether as a volunteer or a supporter at one of the fund-raising events.
We will all be there when, and if, you need us.

We lost two grandparents who went to
Huron Shores Hospice at the end of their lives, in December - just 10 days apart.
I'm so sorry for your loss, Liz and David, but your story resonated with me as a long-time supporter of the hospice.
Having lived within those walls, I have a newfound and reinforced appreciation for what the hospice represents for those who feel as if they're losing everything, and the peace of knowing that they can stay close to home in their final days.

I am so sorry for your family's loss. Sometimes the quiet, gentle souls leave the biggest impact on those around them.
I am so glad she had her final days in hospice. When you are about to lose a loved one, all that person’s loved ones need care as well.
It sounds as if your sister-in-law’s passing was how she would have wanted it.

Also, such a beautiful tribute to the kind and generous people who make the hospice such a warm experience for families in the most difficult moments.
