Kincardine man wins OMHA award for exemplary service in sports administration

Jamie Hunsburger (above) of Kincardine has won the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) Patricia Hartley Administrators Award for exemplary service in the field of sports administration.
This award reflects the achievements of a local executive board member or volunteer staff person, toward the efficient operations of an association and the betterment of hockey.
Hunsburger has been involved with the Kincardine Minor Hockey Association (KMHA) for more than 20 years, as a parent and team staff member, as well as filling a variety of hockey executive and volunteer roles in the community, states his nomination by the KMHA. He works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure an understanding of the rules and options available to allow children to enjoy the sport of hockey.
He has been a constant advocate for improvements and additions to local facilities, made many presentations on behalf of minor hockey to the local municipality, asking for funding and making recommendations for changes to improve the experience for all.
Hunsburger represents the part of hockey that few people realize is such an essential part of the sport. It’s not flashy or glamorous but without all the hard work he does, Kincardine Minor Hockey would be lost before each hockey season even begins.
He oversees rosters, permits, rules of operations, and presides over the minor hockey ‘flock’ to ensure the members do everything by the book and have all the tools available to run a successful organization.
His motto has always been “hockey runs only when many hands do the work.” He and his family truly represent what a full commitment to minor hockey is all about. Without the skill, knowledge and patience of someone like him, a large number of players within the community of Kincardine would never have been able to reach their full potential and enjoy the sport that we all love.
