Ripley Wolves down 2-0 in Senior “AA” final against Tavistock

March 21, 2023

The Ripley Wolves are down two games to one, in their WOAA Senior “AA” final against the Tavistock Royals, after losing the first two games in the series, on the weekend.

Saturday night, the Wolves dropped Game 1, by a score of 6-2.

Tavistock scored early in the first, but Dan Nicoloff tied it up just seconds later with a laser under the crossbar, with assists going to Alex Kuntz and Adam Alexander.

The Royals regained the lead later in the first period, and wouldn't relinquish it from there.

Chase Meurs scored from Evan Visser and Ben Scheel with eight minutes remaining in the third, but it was too little, too late for a Wolves comeback attempt.

Wolves goalie Jason Hamilton faced 34 shots, while the Wolves fired 37 on Tavistock's net.

Sunday afternoon, Ripley travelled to Tavistock and came home with a 4-3 overtime loss.

The Wolves led by a goal after one period on a shot by Alex Kuntz, from Nick Seiler and Adam Alexander.

A two-goal second period for Tavistock – both on powerplays – gave the Royals the lead heading into the third period, when Ripley's Ethan Skinner was awarded a penalty shot early. He made no mistake and tied the game.

Just five minutes later, Dan Nicoloff gave the Wolves the lead, from Kuntz and Seiler.

Then, with just two minutes left on the clock, Ripley was given a cross-checking penalty as the Wolves defended their goal. A minute later, Tavistock had its third powerplay goal of the afternoon, and the game went to overtime.

Midway through the extra period, Tavistock put one behind Wolves goalie Jason Hamilton, taking the 4-3 win, and the 2-0 series lead.

Game 3 will be held in Ripley, Saturday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m., while Game 4 will be in Tavistock, Sunday, March 26, at 1 p.m.
