Kincardine Cross-Country Ski Club hosting loppet, snowshoe walk
The Kincardine Cross-Country Ski Club is hosting its third annual Ski Loppet and its first annual Snowshoe Walk, both this month, at the Stoney Island Conservation Area, north of the Kincardine hospital on the B-line (Bruce County Road 23).
The Loppet will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, with a five-kilometre race for all age groups, and for beginners to experts, at 2 p.m., and a relaxed shorter tour for everyone at 3 p.m.
Following the tour, hot apple cider and hot chocolate and cookies will be served in the warm-up hut beside the parking lot.
For those who want to try the sport but have no equipment, the club has several sets of skis available to borrow.
If the weather causes the event to be cancelled, the loppet will be held the following weekend. For more information, check the website at

The inaugural Snowshoe Walk will be held Sunday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m.. The ski club welcomes everyone to come and walk through the lovely trails at Stoney Island Conservation Area.
There will be a shorter walk of 2.5 kilometres, and a longer walk of five kilometres. Afterwards, there will be hot cider and hot chocolate in the warm-up hut. Bring your own snowshoes or borrow a pair and come out and enjoy the fun!
