Huron OPP report disturbance; impaired driver; and Operation Impact results
DAMAGE TO PROPERTY, DISTURBANCE LEAD TO CRIMINAL CHARGES

(GODERICH, ON) - An investigation conducted by the Huron County OPP involving damage to property in the Town of Goderich, has resulted in several criminal charges for a Goderich resident.

Wednesday, Sept. 20, at approximately 1 p.m., police received several 911 calls reporting that an individual was displaying assaultive, destructive behaviour on the Square in Goderich. The individual was reported to be smashing a garbage container against a storefront window.

OPP officers arrived on scene shortly after receiving the 911 calls and located the suspect in the area. The suspect was non-compliant and displayed assaultive behaviour, and a Conducted Energy Weapon was utilized to safely gain control of the suspect. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Huron OPP detachment for processing.

James MASON, 31, of Goderich has been charged with:
 
  • Mischief Under $5,000
  • Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Causing a Disturbance

The accused was later released from custody with an appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich, Oct. 30.

IMPAIRED DRIVER NABBED AFTER VEHICLE HITS HYDRO POLE

(GODERICH, ON) – The Huron County OPP has charged an Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Township resident with Impaired driving offences, following a collision investigation.

Just after 5:10 p.m., Friday, Sept. 22, Huron County OPP officers responded to a motor vehicle collision, involving a vehicle that had collided with a hydro pole on Oxford Street, near Huron Road in the Town of Goderich.

The involved driver did not remain at the scene of the collision and was later located at the Goderich Hospital with minor injuries. Police spoke to the driver and made a demand for a breath sample using the roadside screening device which resulted in a failure. The investigating officer subsequently arrested the driver for Impaired Operation.

The accused then provided further breath samples before a qualified Intoxilizer Breath Technician. Suitable breath samples were provided to police which resulted in readings over the legal limit.

Ronda BOGIE, 60, of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Township has been charged with:
 
  • Operation while Impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while Impaired - Over-80
  • Dangerous Operation

The accused was additionally charged under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) for failing to remain at the scene of a collision.

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused's driver's licence was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for Oct. 16, at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.

OPERATION IMPACT TRAFFIC CAMPAIGN RESULTS

(HURON COUNTY, ON) - Members of the Huron County OPP took part in the Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend Traffic Campaign from Oct. 6-9. The focus was placed on traffic safety and the "Big Four" which include: distracted driving, alcohol/drug-impaired driving, speeding/aggressive driving, and lack of occupant restraint use.

Provincially, over the four-day traffic campaign, OPP officers laid more than 4,800 speeding charges.

Huron OPP officers conducted 216 traffic stops and laid 119 charges during the initiative including:
 
  • 87 speeding
  • Four stunt-driving
  • Five for improper seatbelt use
  • One impaired driving
  • One distracted driving
  • Four insurance-related
  • 17 various traffic-related

Huron OPP officers also issued 55 warnings during the campaign period. There were eight motor vehicle collisions, but thankfully, none resulted in a fatality.
