Bruce Power earns highest level of certification from Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business
Bruce Power has been awarded a gold-level certification for the fourth consecutive time by the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB), for excellence in Indigenous relations.

The award for achieving certification in Progressive Aboriginal Relations™ (PAR), handed out during the “West Coast Business Forum Award Dinner” Oct. 19 in Vancouver, is the highest level of recognition offered by the CCAB. Bruce Power was also awarded gold in 2014, 2017 and 2020, and the company is one of only a dozen to have received the designation in 2023.

“We’re thrilled to have, once again, received this recognition and we fully support the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business mission of advocating for the full participation of Indigenous peoples in Canada’s economy,” said Adam Kahgee, Bruce Power’s director of Indigenous relations and business partnerships.

“We’re proud of our strong relationship with the Indigenous communities which host our site upon their traditional territories and we’re proud of the programs and partnerships we’ve formed on our continuing journey together.”

More than 200 companies participate in PAR, a CCAB certification program that confirms corporate performance in Indigenous relations. PAR-certified companies undergo rigorous independent certification to confirm they are acting to establish strong and ongoing working relationships that create wealth for Indigenous businesses and communities.

“We congratulate Bruce Power on its re-certification at the gold level,” said Tabatha Bull, CCAB president and chief executive officer. “We are proud that a growing number of companies has committed to working collaboratively across cultures for progressive Indigenous relations. This dedication advances economic reconciliation by providing opportunities for the employment of Indigenous peoples into all levels of positions, including leadership and executive opportunities.”

Through its PAR program, Bruce Power is committed to being a good business partner, providing a great place to work and prosperity for Indigenous communities. As part of these commitments, Bruce Power has driven actions through four key performance areas, including leadership, employment, business development, and community relationships.

As part of its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, Bruce Power has focused on increasing Indigenous employment and creating economic opportunities within the communities. The company strongly supports the hiring of Indigenous peoples, either directly into the organization or through placements with vendors and trades working with the organization.

Since its last PAR gold certification, Bruce Power also has entered into a collaboration with Saugeen Ojibway Nation (SON) to jointly market medical isotopes in an equity partnership. The partnership is named “Gamzook’aamin Aakoziwin” which means “Fighting Cancer Together,” and supports the global fight against cancer through Bruce Power’s production of Lutetium-177, while creating new economic opportunities within the SON territory.
