Bruce County District W.I. presents Woman of Excellence Fair Award

The Bruce County District Women’s Institute gathered at the Port Elgin Legion, Thursday, Oct. 26, for the 66th Annual Rally.

The district has nine branches and welcomed representatives from eight of those.

The theme of the day was “Finding Your Rhythm” and the ladies had fun with drumming, noise-makers and dancing.

The guest speaker was Deborah Pope, MSW, retired senior administrator in child protection, whose topic was “One Step at a Time.” She spoke of all the changes she has experienced over her work and personal life. She was very inspirational when describing her journey along the West Coast Trail - something most of us would never try.

The district celebrated the accomplishments of one of its own, Sandra MacDonald of the Bervie Women’s Institute, who received the Woman of Excellence Fair Award for her many years of service to her community.

MacDonald is part of numerous groups and organizations, including the Ripley and Kincardine Agricultural Societies, Ripley Horticultural Society, Bervie United Church and the quilters’ group at the Bervie United Church. She has made many pies, cakes and lots of meals for community dinners, plowing matches, and Women’s Institute events.

The award was presented by Bruce County District W.I. president Ellen Waye with the addition of two MacDonald teacups.
