She cited the commissioner's annual report, released Tuesday (Nov. 3), "Small Things Matter," saying "The commissioner has identified gaps in the knowledge regarding neonicotinoid use and the need for Ontario-focused, science-based research into the matter. But the Liberal government hasn't done this, and instead, has forged ahead to create a policy that is handcuffing Ontario's agricultural sector."
Thompson has asked minister of environment and climate change, Glen Murray, to halt the ban on neonics until the government can enact the commissioner's recommendation.
In his response, the minister failed to confirm that Ontario-based research will be conducted.
