About 100 seniors enjoy Christmas dinner, courtesy of Tiverton Lions Club
About 100 seniors enjoyed a delicious Christmas turkey dinner, with all the trimmings, thanks to the Tiverton and District Lions Club, Friday night, at the Whitney Crawford Community Centre.
This is the 45th annual event, and MC Hank VanMoorsel said that, to date, the Lions and their helpers have cooked more than 300 turkeys, mashed more than two tons of potatoes and turnips, and served almost 6,000 people.
“We do this because you deserve it,” he said. “You’ve helped make this community what it is.
“This year, we are celebrating 50 years of the Tiverton Lions Club and thanks to your support, we have been able to build the Tiverton Arena, develop the Walk of Memories, maintain Lions Memorial Park and the Cenotaph where we hold Remembrance Day, help others through the Christmas Hamper program, and hold a successful Cake Wheel at the fair.”
VanMoorsel said grace and offered a few jokes while the crowd enjoyed the meal. Besides the seniors, there were about 25 volunteers, and 12 take-out dinners.
Singer and musician Steve Deer of Kincardine provided entertainment, and at the end of the evening, the poinsettias that were the centrepieces, were raffled off.
