Kincardine Legion Corner

This week’s Catch the Ace winner was Jean Breton who took home $1,200. She had Envelope No. 25 which contained the Jack of Diamonds. If she had caught the Ace of Spades, she would have been laughing all the way to the bank with $17,860.50! So, remember to grab your tickets as they make great stocking stuffers and great Christmas gifts for those hard-to-buy-for people or that great neighbour that always seems to be there for you when you need a helping hand. The next jackpot should be around $19,000!

If you missed our final Mega Meat Draw for this year, with Highway 19 rocking the hall, then you will have to wait for next year to see what we have up our sleeves; trust me, you will be wowed at the line-up we have planned!

Speaking of Mega Meat Draw, we gave away eight turkeys along with our eight regular meat draw prizes. A great big thanks to Sobeys and No Frills for donating the turkeys. We also raffled off several donated gift certificates and Christmas items, as well as four blankets handmade by our very own above-and-beyond-the-call-of-duty Cookie Quinn. Okay I, Lisa Shaw, won the 50/50 draw for that day and I have to say I was over the moon when I found out that the jackpot was $1,050! I had spent all that day in the kitchen with our cook, Jon Shaw, and an amazing volunteer Patty Goodspeed, Thanks so much, Patty!

We took the night off and came back on Sunday to celebrate a Christmas dinner with our veterans, spouses, caregivers and widows. Bob Fletcher and his jazz band entertained us. There was turkey and all the fixings; I don’t think anyone went away hungry. A big shout-out to the Kinetic Knights for volunteering their time to help serve and clean up afterwards, and another great big thank you to all the kitchen volunteers who made it all possible.

Remember that there are no Fiddlers on the 19th, no Meat Draw on the 23rd or 30th, no Bingo on the 28th.

The Legion is closed Dec. 24-26. Keep an ear and eye out on our Facebook and website if there are any changes to these hours.

Again, our New Year’s Eve party is sold out, but we open Jan. 1, 2024, at Noon, for the New Year’s Levee.

President Jim McDonald was at the Kinetic Knights Robotics Team (FRC Team 781) shop, Tuesday night, to present a cheque for $5,000, sponsoring the team for the 2023-24 season. Go, Team 781!
