Be prepared for severe winter weather in Bruce County
It is important to be prepared for severe winter weather in Bruce County.
Bruce County Emergency Management reminds everyone to get prepared by ensuring your home is winter-ready for potential significant winter weather events.
“Getting snowed-in is a very real possibility during a severe winter storm,” says county emergency management co-ordinator Ray Lux. “Get your home winter-ready to ensure it is a safe place to be for a prolonged period of time.”
- Trim branches hanging over your house so they don’t cause damage if they get weighed down with snow and ice.
- Shut off your outdoor water or insulate your outdoor pipes to prevent freezing.
- Test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to make sure they are in good working order.
- Have your chimney inspected and cleaned to ensure it’s not a fire hazard.
- Clear your furnace exterior ventilation in the event of significant snow fall and drifting to prevent carbon monoxide build up.
- If using a generator, ensure it has proper ventilation.
- Do not use barbecues or stoves as a heat source.
