Kincardine Pathfinder has her envelope design chosen for hospital foundation Christmas ornament campaign

Kincardine Pathfinder Makayla Roberts designed an envelope featuring a cheery snowman and a Christmas tree. And it was so delightful that it has been chosen for the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation's annual Christmas ornament campaign mail-out.

The Grade 7 student joined her fellow Pathfinders and Guides in creating several envelope designs. Leaders Alicia Noakes and Mary Ritter say the units are always looking for something to do for people in the community and were honoured to be asked to design the envelope for this campaign.

"There are so many people who use our hospital on a daily basis and we are fortunate to have such a great facility right here in Kincardine," states a letter to the residents of Kincardine and surrounding area, which accompanies the campaign mail-out, signed by the Guides and Pathfinders, and their leaders, of Kincardine.

The girls were directed to draw a picture of what Christmas meant to them. Most agreed that it was nice to be outside playing in the snow, or inside by the fireplace, so they drew about that.

The leaders then discussed each picture submitted, and determined the top three designs. The girls were each sent to a private booth to vote on the winner. The one that received the most votes, was created by Makayla.

The ornament campaign is a fund-raiser for the hospital foundation. For each donation, an ornament is hung on a Christmas tree in the lobby of the Kincardine hospital. A $10 donation gets you a red ornament, a $25 donation gets you a silver ornament, $50 is gold, $100 is a snowman, and $250 is an angel.

Foundation co-ordinator Diane Baldwin said the foundation asked the Kincardine Guides and Pathfinders to help design this year's Christmas envelope, and then choose the winner. Makayla's envelope design will grace the letters which will be mailed out by the first week in December.

"We thank everyone for their support," said Baldwin. "We could not raise money for needed medical equipment without our caring community!"
