​Bervie W.I. holds annual meeting, installs officers for 2024-25

The Bervie Women’s Institute met at the Bervie United Church, Wednesday morning.

President Bev Berndt welcomed everyone and read the land acknowledgement followed by the usual openings. 

The Roll Call – a joke or poem and payment of fees - was answered by 11 members. Betty Jean White read the minutes of the last meeting and Islay Eby gave the treasurer’s report. 

Mildred Griffith reported that she has the Tweedsmuir books up-to-date and is passing them on to the new curator, Ellen Waye. Mildred was thanked for her many years as curator for the Bervie W.I.

Sandra MacDonald gave the Sunshine Report. Ellen reported that the “Home and Country” newsletter is now on-line. She also gave highlights of the District Directors meeting held in early March where W.I. plans were made for the coming year. Betty Jean presented attendance gifts to Bev, Ellen and Diane Wilson.   

A delicious potluck lunch was enjoyed and the group reconvened for its annual meeting.

The minutes of the April 5, 2023, annual meeting were read by Betty Jean, and Islay gave the treasurer’s report. Ellen gave the financial examiner’s report. The following members presented reports: Islay – PRO report, Mildred – Curator, Sandra – Sunshine (sent 92 cards), and ROSE programs (2) – Brenda Ramsdale.

Ellen installed the officers for 2024-25 which remain the same except for our new curator, Ellen, and new secret pal co-ordinator, Brenda. Betty Jean read the bylaws and one change was noted. Donations will be made to Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario (FWIO) projects.

The meeting closed with the closing ode and “the King.”

The next meeting will be held Wednesday, may 1, at 10 a.m., with Bert and Maria Hodgins speaking about “Hope Air.”
