​South Bruce OPP report impaired driver; compliance check; and property crime

POLICE ARREST IMPAIRED DRIVER AT RIDE CHECKPOINT

(ARRAN-ELDERSLIE, ON) - The South Bruce OPP arrested an impaired driver at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint.

April 11, members of the South Bruce OPP were conducting a RIDE checkpoint on 1st Avenue South in the Municipality of Arran-Elderslie. At 11:07 p.m., police stopped a vehicle to check the sobriety of the driver.

The investigating officer administered a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test, registering a fail. The driver was placed under arrest and taken to a Qualified Breath Technician for breath tests.

Tyler Williams, 56, of the Municipality of Arran-Elderslie was charged with Operation while impaired - blood-alcohol concentration (80-plus).

COMPLIANCE CHECK LEADS TO CHARGES

(BROCKTON, ON) - April 10, the South Bruce OPP conducted a compliance check in the Town of Walkerton for an individual out on release for other criminal matters.

Police discovered the individual to be breaching the conditions of the release order. The individual was taken into custody, without issue.

As a result of the investigation, Birgit RAPELJE, 55, was charged with Failure to comply with release order (two counts).

The accused appeared by video at the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton, April 11, and was remanded into custody. A subsequent court appearance was scheduled for April 12, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton.

(ARRAN-ELDERSLIE, ON) - The South Bruce OPP is focusing its efforts on targeting property crime in Arran-Elderslie after increased reports of fuel thefts and suspicious activity in the area.

The South Bruce OPP reminds the public of the following:
 

• Properly secure your residence, outbuildings and vehicles - pocket your keys
• Keep your property well-lit and reduce visual obstructions
• Consider equipping your property with surveillance cameras and/or laneway alarms
• Report suspicious activity/vehicles to police
• Never leave valuables in plain view
