Kincardine without hydro Saturday while Hydro One fixed broken poles on Highway 21

It was a beautiful, sunny day, Saturday, but the Town of Kincardine was without power while Hydro One crews repaired damaged poles on Highway 21, between Concessions 5 and 7, north of town.

Hydro One spokesperson Tiziana Baccega Rosa said Monday that the poles were damaged overnight Friday during the major wind storm that blew through the area.

She said that power was still flowing through the wires even though the poles had been broken off.

An emergency outage was required to fix the damage, she said, affecting all Westario Power customers in the Town of Kincardine.

“Power had to be disconnected,” said Baccega Rosa. “It was critical so that crews could replace the damaged poles.”

The hydro went out at 11 a.m., and was restored at 5:22 p.m., she said. However, people in some areas of town said their power did not come back on until later in the evening.

Hydro One also reported numerous customers in the Kincardine area without power Friday, due to the high winds. Ironically, the lights stayed on in Kincardine until the emergency outage Saturday.
