​South Bruce OPP report impaired drivers; and results from warrant apprehension team

POLICE ARREST TWO DRIVERS AT RIDE CHECKPOINT

(WALKERTON, ON) - April 29, at 10:41 p.m., members of the South Bruce OPP, were conducting a RIDE checkpoint in Walkerton, when police stopped a vehicle to check the sobriety of the driver.

The driver was displaying signs of impairment. While police were dealing with the first individual, a second motorist entered the RIDE program and police determined that driver was also impaired.

Both drivers were placed under arrest and taken to a Qualified Breath Technician for breath tests.

John ELDER, 24, of Arran-Elderslie was charged with Operation while impaired - blood-alcohol concentration (80-plus).

Matt MARKAUSKAS, 22, of Brockton was charged with Operation while impaired- blood-alcohol concentration (80-plus).

WARRANT APPREHENSION TEAM SHOWING RESULTS

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) - Jan. 22, the South Bruce OPP Warrant Apprehension Team was formed as a temporary pilot project. Since that date, 91 individuals have been arrested and processed.

Two members of the South Bruce OPP were selected for this team, in order to locate and apprehend wanted parties in southern Bruce County and the surrounding area. Officers executed warrants, completed compliance checks and laid appropriate charges where violations had taken place. The two officers worked closely with South Bruce Court Services, regularly executing warrants.

The project has now concluded with the possibility of its return in the near future. The South Bruce OPP now pushes its focus to the busy summer months ahead.
