The annual meeting for the Purple Grove Community Centre was held on the 16th. Chairman Rob Thompson did his usual capable job of keeping the discussions and decisions on track. Treasurer Heather Finnie gave her report which was approved by the community members present. The newest director is Glen Farrell. The community centre will be the place for the Christmas concert Dec. 19. Hope to see everyone there!
The Ripley and District Horticultural Society hosted its Christmas potluck meeting, Wednesday at the Ripley Community Social Room. There was a good crowd in attendance and they all had fun auctioning the Christmas planters made by Sandra MacDonald and Gail VanderHoek and helpers. President Ann Finlayson chaired the meeting and was pleased to present Sheila MacDonald with a Life Membership. Sheila has been a dedicated member and treasurer of the Horticultural Society for many years. Sandra MacDonald was presented with a crystal pitcher from the Royal Bank for the most points at the Flower Show.
Marilyn and Don Reid returned last week from an interesting trip to Pigeon Forge. They also had lunch with Don’s sister, Wilda Parker, in Clinton, Friday, and the Husk family visited Sunday evening.
Sympathy of the community is extended to the families of Allene Bradley, Donald Farrish, Tony Eden and Ernie Gibson.
Several folks are enjoying the Kincardine Theatre Guild’s presentation of "Peter Pan, the Pantomime." Congratulations to all the young and older actors and the directors for a fine performance.
Congratulations to Wes and Missy Abell on the birth of a little boy, Logan Joseph, another great-grandson for Elletta Aitken at RVilla. Fern and Wes Abell are proud grandparents.
Around 75 members, parents and leaders gathered at the Ripley-Huron Community School for the 4-H clubs achievement night. The evening started with the 4-H pledge, and greetings from Hailey Allen, Kincardine Fall Fair ambassador, and Brian Reid, president of the Ripley Agricultural Society. Awards from Ontario 4-H were handed out. 17 new members received their plaque for completing their first year in the 4-H program. Cora Hodgins was presented with a framed print from Gay Lea for completing 24 clubs.There was also recognition for six, 12, and 18 clubs being completed.Thanks to Hailey for helping out with this part of the evening, and with the drawing of the door prizes. The Hoofs and Hearts Veterinary Club, Dairy Club, Horse Club, Ripley Rocker Curling Club, Camping Club, Sheep Club and Conservation Club all presented their members with gifts and prizes. The Ripley Agricultural Society presented each member participating in the fair with a monetary token. Refreshments and fellowship completed the evening.
Anne MacInnes hosted a lunch, Saturday with Carol Ann Shantz, Maryellen Traher and Joan Eadie.
RVilla is preparing for its annual Christmas Bazaar, Friday afternoon, Nov 27. Everyone is welcome.
The Purple Grove Women's Institute will be meeting Dec. 2, at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Fran Farrell. Roll Call is a gift for the Christmas Hampers and collection will be donated to Sleeping Children.

PURPLE GROVE WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
The November meeting of the Purple Grove Women’s Institute was held at the Community Centre. President Janet Rhody welcomed all members and guests. hostess Janet Nixon had the centre looking welcoming. The Scripture was read by Shirley MacDonald. Congratulations were given to Mary Boyle of Lucknow who was honoured as the oldest 4-H member/leader at the 100th Anniversary celebration of the 4-H organization. Some of our members commented about their thankfulness for Mary’s commitment while they were attending 4-H.
Janet R. said she would be pleased to lay the wreath at the Remembrance Day service in Ripley. We were invited to the Reid’s Corners W.I.'s Nov. 18 meeting. Reports were given about the Convention and Rally in October. Mary Anne read a letter from the W.I. historian of Ryder Lake B C. Her letter was posted on-line in the Kincardine Record. Mary Anne invited everyone to attend the Christmas Concert at the Community Centre Dec. 19.
Convener Fran Farrell introduced the guest speaker, Nancy Ackert, a Life Insurance and Financial Advisor in Kincardine. Nancy spoke about some of the new provincial regulations in estate planning. One of her startling comments was that an executor has only 90 days to do all the paperwork involved in an estate. Her very informative presentation had most of us rethinking our estate planning. At the end of the presentation, Nancy gave out three door prizes. She was thanked by Fran and was available for many questions during the lunch time. Lots of good discussions ensued while we enjoyed the lunch provided by Marilyn Reid, Janet Rhody and Wilma Sutton.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, Dec. 2, in the afternoon at Fran’s. We are all looking forward to the craft demonstration by Joanne VanDam.
