​South Bruce OPP Marine Unit launches patrol boat; Safe Boating Week is May 18-24

(SOUTH BRUCE, ON) - Members of the South Bruce OPP will be patrolling the waters of Lake Huron, and small inland lakes this spring, and summer. May 9, the large patrol craft was launched in Kincardine.

Expect to see marine operators out on several bodies of water over the next several months. 

The 2024 Canada Safe Boating Week runs May 18-24. The South Bruce OPP Marine Unit recommends that vessel owners/operators download the Safe Boating Guide found here: tc.canada.ca/en/marine-transportation/marine-safety/office-boating-safety.

Examples of safety equipment include:
 

• Lifejacket or Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
• Re-boarding Device
• Buoyant Heaving Line
• Manual Bilge Pump
• Flares

What you need to carry varies by vessel and vessel length, but it's imperative that you ensure you have the required safety equipment onboard before you leave the dock. The time to find out it's lacking, is not when you need it most.
