South Bruce OPP prepare for Police Week

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) - The South Bruce OPP is highlighting local officers during Police Week which runs May 12-18.

This is an annual recognition week that focuses on increasing community awareness and acknowledgement of police services, while strengthening partnerships between police and those they serve. It is an opportunity to commend all members of police services for their strong commitment to keeping Ontario safe.

Since 1970, Police Week has taken place in May to coincide with Peace Officers Memorial Day, which is internationally recognized May 15.

"The South Bruce OPP has 59 uniform members, and 11 civilian,” says staff-sergeant Deb McClure, detachment manager. “Our South Bruce area hosts some of the most picturesque views from Lake Huron, the Saugeen River, rural and urban policing.

“Our officers have opportunities to work front-line, specialty units, such as crime community service, emergency response, marine, scenes of crime, bicycle patrol and All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV), to name a few. It's a diverse area full of opportunity for officers to have a balanced work and personal life."

The OPP is urging candidates who are dedicated to upholding the law and serving their communities to consider a police officer's career path.
