​Hundreds gather at Davidson Centre, Kincardine, for annual Multicultural Celebration

Hundreds of people filled the arena floor at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine, Tuesday night, for the annual Multicultural Celebration.

The focus of the celebration was on diversity and inclusion in the community, as organizer Chandra Tripathi welcomed everyone.

Joining Tripathi on stage, were Kincardine mayor Kenneth Craig and deputy mayor Andrea Clarke, Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb, Kate Paul, diversity, equity and inclusion lead at Bruce Power, Watson Morris of the organizing committee, and Kincardine strategic initiatives manager Lorie Fioze.

Lobb said he was honoured to be at the celebration ... finally. This was his first time attending the event because the federal government is not in session at the House of Commons in Ottawa.

“This is a wonderful tradition in Kincardine and the surrounding community,” said Craig. “We’re here acknowledging our differences and celebrating our similarities. Thank you to all the participants for your hard work and dedication to this event.”

“Bruce Power is proud to be a sponsor of this event,” said Paul. “It’s an opportunity to celebrate all the cultures in our community.”

“Thank you to everyone for representing your countries and cultures so well,” said Morris.

The Multicultural Celebration is for all ages, featuring cultural displays from about a dozen countries, including Afghanistan, the Philippines, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Syria, Pakistan, Nigeria, India, and Hungary.

Also on display, were traditional dress, and ethnic foods, all in a fun, free, family-friendly, festive environment, where people could experience the richness of the cultures that make this country special.

There were several groups and organizations also in attendance, including the Nuclear Innovation Institute, Bruce Power, the Bruce County Public Library, and the Kinetic Knights Robotics Team, as well as a craft corner for children and youth.

The celebration is supported by Bruce Power and the Municipality of Kincardine, and hosted by the Swajan Samanvay Sanatan Centre.
