Huron-Bruce MPP pressures government on cost of Cap-and-Trade scheme

Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson continues to pressure the Ontario government about the cost of its proposed Cap-and-Trade scheme.

During Question Period Wednesday (Nov. 25), the Ontario Progressive Conservative (PC) critic for environment and Cap-and-Trade asked the government about the increased costs Ontario families can expect to see following the implementation of this program.

"The government's announcement yesterday provided no additional details and even fewer answers," said Thompson. "Today, during Question Period, the Liberals have once again proven that they have not done their homework - failing to provide the answers both Ontario businesses and families deserve."

Despite the government announcing its Cap-and-Trade plan a year ago, Thompson remains dissatisfied with the responses she has received regarding cost and plan details. When Alberta unveiled its plan Sunday, its government told Albertans exactly what the costs would be.

"This plan will impact Ontarians on everything from fuel to groceries to manufactured goods," said Thompson. "The government has an obligation to tell Ontario families what this plan will cost them per year before proceeding with Cap-and-Trade.

"The minister for environment and climate change has even admitted the government is not focusing on the cost of the plan, and that there has been little to no discussion on the issue."
