Kincardine Probus Club celebrates 30th anniversary
District 5 Probus director June Ayrhart was the guest speaker, as the Kincardine Probus Club celebrated its 30th anniversary Tuesday, May 21.
Bill Turvill and John Cutting started the local club in 1994.
Ayrhart explained a little bit of the history about Probus, stating that it began, internationally, in 1987. Now, there are more than 4,000 clubs worldwide - 250 of them in Canada – with more than 35,000 members nationwide.
She is pleased that local clubs are a source of positive energy, social interaction, and friendship, where one can enjoy learning something new each month, and participate in a friendly atmosphere without fund-raising.
Ayrhart is proud that Probus Canada facilitates the success by providing resources. She cited the promised national goal is providing fellowship, friendship and fun for all men and women in their retirement and semi-retirement years.

Written ByBill Pike is a retired elementary school principal. He and his wife, Sharon, have lived in Kincardine for 47 years, enjoying fulfilling careers, rural life, three wonderful children, and four outstanding grandchildren. Golf in the summer (poorly), pickleball, guitar-playing, long leisurely walks, the sunny south and family all fill his time. This project is as an effort by him to share his interest about the topics affecting seniors and how they can advocate for their issues. The statement, “Getting old isn’t for the faint of heart,” is real! The rewards of retirement can sometimes be accompanied by aches, pains, medical concerns, and general wellness issues. In this column, Pike takes a look at the good, the bad, and the ugly of senior living. Don’t laugh at age, pray to make it!
