POSITIVE ACTIONS OF YOUTH IS A “HOT” TOPIC THIS WINTER
(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – Youth demonstrating positive actions, positive behaviour and showing acts of kindness toward others, may earn themselves some well-deserved acknowledgment this winter. The OPP is proud to be continuing its partnership with Mac’s Convenience Stores across Ontario this year for Operation Heat 2015.
OPP officers will be on the look-out in communities across the province; and when they “catch” a youth participating in an act of kindness, the youth will receive a ‘thank you’ in the form of a free “ticket” for hot chocolate.
A youth may receive a "Positive Ticket" from an officer for a number of positive behaviours:
Doing a good deed
Participating in community activities
Demonstrating community pride, e.g. picking up trash
Deterring crime or observing school crossing rules
As an "icebreaker" to establish a rapport with kids in the officer's patrol area
“Officers can use the coupons in a ‘positive’ way to interact with young people in their area and build relationships that will last for years to come,” says OPP inspector Robyn MacEachern, OPP Community Safety Services.
"Mac’s is excited to once again partner with the OPP on this important initiative that encourages kids across Ontario to make positive decisions within their communities," says Sean Sportun, manager, loss prevention and security for Mac’s in Central Canada.
THE HOLIDAYS ARE AN IMPORTANT TIME TO “LOCK-IT OR LOSE-IT”
(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce OPP reminds motorists that they should always follow the Auto Theft Protection Tips of the Lock-it or Lose-it program. This becomes especially important during the holidays which are hectic enough without becoming a victim of theft.
The Lock-it or Lose-it tips not only help to prevent auto theft, they also help to prevent the theft of valuable objects that may be left in your vehicle:
South Bruce OPP officers periodically check unattended vehicles across the detachment area. Typically, officers find that one in seven vehicles (14 per cent) are left unlocked. Of the vehicles found unlocked; officers have seen keys in the ignition or cup holder and valuables in plain sight, such as GPS units, laptops, tools, etc.
A professional thief can steal your vehicle in less than a minute. Don’t make it any easier for him. You’ve worked hard for your property, so work hard to protect it.
