Quilters showcase magnificent artwork at Quilts on the Fence

The Kincardine Sunset Quilters’ Guild was blessed with breezy, sunny weather, as about 25 members showcased more than 100 creations at Quilts on the Fence, Saturday, in the parking lot at St. Anthony’s Church in Kincardine.

Organizers Anna Morrison and Mary Coates were thrilled with the result of this idea which they decided to do back in September.

“This is fabulous,” said Morrison. “We prayed for good weather and here we are surrounded by all these beautiful quilts.”

Coates said the best part, is the event was free. “We need more events like this in Kincardine.”

Among the work on display, were a number of collage quilts which involve overlapping layers of raw-edged prepared flowers and motifs to a base fabric using fusible web; the finished design is then quilted. There were also wall-hangings, table-runners and other fancy quilted items.

Several vendors had their wares available for sale in the lower level of the church.

The Kincardine Sunset Quilters’ Guild holds regular meetings, from September to June, on the second Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m., at St. Anthony’s Church. Members also hold “Sit and Sew” sessions on Mondays, welcoming those who want to finish projects or learn how to quilt.
